HOW IT WORKS

Standard Lacquer Cutting

The development of stampers for pressing vinyl records from lacquer substrates coincided with the switch from shellac to vinyl recordings in the 1950s. Aluminum discs coated with nitrocellulose and grooved for sound are called lacquers. Due to a greater number of lacquer cutting lathes and the long history of lacquer mastering, this analogue mastering approach is widely acknowledged and utilized.

Direct Metal Mastering

In order to create the high-quality stampers used in the pressing process, Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) technology requires a number of additional operations in addition to cutting the grooves into a copper plate.
